In order to deeply study and implement the national strategy of “food security”, and enhance the consciousness of treasuring and saving food among all teachers and students, academic lecture “Save and treasure food, starting from myself, and build a food security defense line together” was carried out by Dr. Huang Congcong, vice dean of School of Food Science and Technology, in teaching building 2A302 on May 31, 2024. Teachers and students of grade 2023 of School of Food Science and Technology attended the lecture.
In this lecture, food security problems faced by China were elaborated in detail at first, as well as the remarkable achievements made in food security considering the constraints of multiple unfavourable factors, such as large population, relatively scarce arable land resources, and a relatively weak agricultural production base. Subsequently, a series of real and vivid cases were shared to analyse in depth the outstanding problems on food security at home and abroad. In particular, the food loss in the key links of food storage, transport and processing should be concerned, which not only threatened the food security in China, but also affected the global food supply. In addition, food waste in the catering industry should not be overlooked.
By exchange of the lecture, teachers and students were effectively guided to cultivate good habits of treasuring and saving food, pay attention to food security, and become firm advocates and active practitioners. As college students in the new era, they expressed strong determination to actively support the life philosophy of advocating thrift, scientific diet, healthy consumption, resolutely abandon wastefulness and other bad dietary consumption habits, and take action to practice the social responsibility of saving and protecting food.
Next, our school will promote a series of publicity activities focused on “Save Food · Empty Disc”, and widely disseminate the concept and culture of civilised dining, thus encouraging saving and opposing wastefulness, so as to jointly contribute to the maintenance of national food security.
